Ways of Yoga

Essentially yoga is “ONE”, there is no duality in any ways, but to understand there are 3 ways to reach it; viz.

  1. Karma yoga / marga – Karma yoga, or the “discipline of action” is a form of yoga. Karma yoga is described as a way of acting, thinking and willing by which one orients oneself towards realization by acting in accordance with one’s duty (dharma) without consideration of personal self-centered desires, likes or dislikes. One acts without being attached to the results of one’s deeds.
  2. Bhakti yoga / marga – Bhakti means “devotion” or “love” and this path contains various practices to unite the bhakta (Bhakti Yoga practitioner) with the Divine. Bhakti Yoga is considered the easiest yogic path to master and the most direct method to experience the unity of mind, body and spirit.
  3. Gyana yoga / marga – Union due to pure knowledge. It is cognitive event which is recognized when experienced. It is knowledge inseparable from the total experience of reality, especially a total or divine reality. it is knowledge which gives release from bondage.

ANY TYPE OF YOGA (now a days, every yoga teacher have a new name to their yoga teaching / understanding style.) IS ESSENTIALLY ONE OF THE WAY OF YOGA MENTIONED ABOVE.

Ayurvedic Diet

Apart from exercise another way to remain healthy and live long, is through right diet.

There is a saying in ayurveda; “proper food is the best medicine”. As a person can not live only on medicine, to maintain the health & live long food is necessary , thus it is rightly said that,

तस्मात् भिषजम् आहारो महाभैषज्यं उच्यते

Planning about diet…?

Think about these before you start –

  1. Seasonal variation (Environmental condition)
  2. Prakriti of individual (Body types)
  3. Disease- proper advise should be taken from doctor for particular diseases.
  4. Viruddha aahar- according to ayurveda, there are some combination of food which should be avoided in all conditions.

If viruddha ahar (antagonist food) is consumed; toxins accumulate in body leads to several diseases. For example –

  1. Avoid combination of milk with – fish, sour fruits especially banana(if sour), mango ( if sour) , Horse Radish(muli), garlic(lehsun), kathal, sahjan,
  2. Avoid combination of Horse Radish(muli) with – milk, Horse bean (urad )soup, butter.
  3. Avoid combination of banana fruit with – curd, butter milk, taal phal.
  4. Avoid combination of ghee and bronze utensils.
  5. Honey with- hot food or liquids, equal quantity of ghee, kamal gatta.
  6. Kheer with sattu.
  7. Hot and cold items along.
  8. Water after fried items.
  9. Heating of curd & honey.
  10. Avoid mixture of any 2 or more at a time- honey, sesame, jaggery(gud), milk, Horse bean (urad ), Horse Radish (muli), kamal gatta, sprouts.
